Alaska Trip Day 16
July 15
Hello All
Today is the trip to Barrow. We left the Bed and Breakfast and went to the store to pick up some supplies. Arrived at the airport at 8:15 and parked the bike and walked over to the place where the trip started. We had to wait until the briefing of a another group was over and when the other 6 people arrived they gave us our briefing. They told us the weather was good in Fairbanks but in Coldfoot the ceiling was too low to land. They told us that we would be stopping in Biddles where they had instrumentation landing capable. 'we left around 9:15 with great weather, a short time out the clouds came in and when we arrived at the stop to get lunch and a bathroom brake the rain was out with low visibility. The landing went fine and after a short break we bordered the plane and was off to Barrow. The sky opened up about half way to Barrow and we had a nice trip in. When we arrived a local person picked us up in an old bus and took us to a second stop where we picked up some other people that had stayed the night. The Top of the World Hotel was not much to look at. The second bus had a broken ignition switch and the driver used two screwdrivers to start the bus each time. It was quite a site to see. The town looks very well used and has around 5000 people in the winter. I am not sure how it survives. It was a long day we got back to Fairbanks at 8:00PM.
Candy took a lot of pictures they are below.

WEATHER ALTERATIONS AND THE BARROW EXPEDITION
Weather in Alaskas Arctic can and does affect flying conditions. Weather may require alteration of a portion or all of the scheduled tour itinerary.
Due to the variable conditions on the Arctic Coast, the Barrow Expedition includes a built-in weather alternate. If current or forecast weather conditions do not allow us to land at Barrow we visit another village, Anaktuvuk Pass. If weather does not allow us to land at Barrow or Anaktuvuk Pass, we visit the communities of Coldfoot & Wiseman. The price differentiation follows:
Anaktuvuk Pass$399 / person
Coldfoot/Wiseman $319 / person
It is very important that guests understand these alternatives and are aware that these are built-in to the experience. If the above mentioned alternative scenario is not consistent with what one is looking for in a tour experience, the Barrow Expedition is NOT the appropriate choice.
Should weather require an overnight stay, guest is responsible for cost of accommodations
