Alaska Trip Day 14

Hello All

We had a great breakfast at Fast Eddies Restaurant it was located just outside the hotel room. I had a omelet with Reindeer sausage and Candy had biscuits and sausage gravy . The morning was quite foggy and a few minutes before we left the sun came out and the sky cleared. We drove 210 miles from Tok through Delta Junction and on to Fairbanks. We stopped at souvenir shop along the way Candy took some pictures of the wood with large knot in them. We arrived at the Bed and Breakfast around 2:00 PM it is sure different to stay in some ones home. We have a upstairs room and a bathroom in the hallway. It was down a dirt road and off in the woods. We asked the lady if we could set up the tent some where and let it dry. She told us to use the upstairs deck. We will leave it set up until it dries. We will try to get out latter today and go into town.

Top ten things to do around Fairbanks

1. Visit the Museum of the North at the University of Fairbanks.

This museum is a treasure! Even it's structure is a work of art! When you visit the Museum of the North you will leave with a lot more knowledge about Alaska's fascinating history.

2. Visit Ester Gold Camp

Ester is a historical gold mining town with many interesting shops operated by local artisans. An all you can eat crab dinner can be had at the Ester Gold Camp. Afterwards visit the Malemute saloon for a glimpse of Alaska's history through the poetry of Robert Service performed for you by talented local musicians and actors.

3. Hike to Angel Rocks

A four hour 3 mile round trip will yield spectacular views of the Chena Hills Area. The rocks and caves are gorgeous as well. This trip is especially beautiful in the fall, which in Alaska arrives during the first week of September.

4. Hike the Chena Hills Ridge Trail and end your day with a relaxing soak at Chena Hot Springs.

A trip to Angel Rocks can be extended by continuing past the rocks to the ridge and hiking 9 miles to Chena Hot Springs Resort where you can soak in the outdoor springs for $10. At this writing shuttle service back to your car is available.

5. Take a flight seeing trip to one of Alaska's rural native villages.

Step back in time and explore another culture in just few hours with a trip north to one of Alaska's rural villages. Warbelow Air offers a choice of package tours.

6. Visit Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park, which I still know as "Alaskaland" is a good place for an enjoyable afternoon and a look at Alaska's history. Many of the original township buildings have been relocated here. If you have small children the train and the old fashioned carousel are big hits.

7. Take a walk at Creamer's Field

Creamer's Field is the site of an old dairy. The wetlands and woods that surround it attract thousands of migrating geese and sandhill cranes in the spring and fall. The woodlands trails make for a relaxing walk in the middle of our small city.

8. An evening by the river.

Take a picnic and drive about 5 miles down Chena Pump Road to the spot where the Chena and Tanana Rivers meet. The light is especially gorgeous in the late evening. Remember, the sun sets only briefly during the longest summer days.

9. Spend an afternoon on the river.

Laze the afternoon away with a trip down the Chena River. Boat rental is available at Pioneer Park. There are several riverside bars and restaurants along the way.

10. Visit the Georgeson Botanical Garden

Spectacular flowers, a children's park, ponds and baby reindeer. Need I say more. Your children will find all kinds of places to run and play and you will enjoy the enormous variety of Alaska's flowers.
